Frequently Asked Questions
This tool uses PDF.js, Mozilla's open-source PDF rendering library, to parse and extract text content from PDF files entirely in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded to any server — all processing happens locally on your device. The tool reads each page of the PDF, extracts the text layer, and presents it with clear page markers so you can easily navigate the content.
This tool extracts the text layer embedded in PDF files. It works great with digitally-created PDFs (from Word, Google Docs, LaTeX, etc.) and PDFs that have been OCR-processed. However, if your PDF contains only scanned images without an embedded text layer, no text will be extracted. In that case, you would need an OCR tool like our Image to Text tool to recognize text from images.
Since all processing happens in your browser, there is no server-imposed file size limit. However, very large PDFs (100+ MB or 1000+ pages) may take longer to process and could be limited by your device's available memory. For best performance, we recommend PDFs under 50 MB. The tool shows real-time progress so you can track extraction status for larger files.
